First-class cricket in Sussex began with a match in Brighton in 1791, and since then a total of 21 grounds in the county have hosted the first-class game.
They are a mix of grounds on inland landed estates, from Petworth in 1824 to Arundel in the 21st century, and grounds at seaside resorts, from Brighton in 1791 to Hove today, along with many grounds in the resorts further west and east.
From one-match venues like Goodwood and Bexhill, via the well-remembered outgrounds at Hastings, Eastbourne and Worthing, right up to today’s County Ground at Hove, Cricket Grounds of Sussex tells of the history and cricket of all 21 grounds. Those used for List A and Second XI cricket are also covered, and detailed records sections are included for all the principal grounds.
