Cricket in a Multiracial Society: A history of cricket in Malaysia SOLD OUT
£15.00
Written by Roy Morgan
The next volume in the Cricket Witness series looks at the fascinating
development of cricket in Malaysia.
Using the analytical lens of a geographer, the author carefully traces how the game – originally played solely by the urban elite – subsequently developed to a game for all, assisted by the creation of road and rail networks which served the country’s plantation and mining industries.
As the author highlights, it was not a smooth transition. Yet, despite the Japanese Occupation, the Malaysian Emergency and racial disturbances of 1969, cricket has developed from being a solely British preserve to a multiracial activity across the Eurasian, Chinese, Indian and Malay communities.
