Cricketing Clerics Package C SOLD OUT

£19.00

Frsnk Gillingham has now sold out. Reverend ES Carter remains available.

Anthony Bradbury’s latest work, Frank Gillingham: Clerical Cricketer or Cricketing Clergyman? describes a stylish attacking batsman for Essex either side of the First World War who was also a London curate for many years. His accomplishments included a double-century at Lord’s and duty as Chaplain to the Royal Household, and a role in some of the first live radio broadcasts on cricket.

Bradbury has also written the biography of Reverend ES Carter: A Yorkshire Cricketing Cleric, who introduced Lord Hawke to Yorkshire cricket. Although he appeared in only a handful of first-class matches for Yorkshire, Edmund Carter played for Oxford University in the 1860s, in Victoria as a young man, and in West London, before the bulk of his life’s work as a clergyman in the shadow of York Minster.

These two books are also available in a triple package, along with George Raikes: Muscular Christianity?
