By Andrew Radd

Did you know that Northampton was the venue of the first women’s Test match in England? Or that one day of the first county game at Wellingborough began in front of just three spectators?

Today, county cricket in Northamptonshire is concentrated at the County Ground at Wantage Road. But over the years first-class cricket has been played at eight other grounds in the county, and the club has also ventured to Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire for ‘home’ venues in some first-class and List A matches, and four more counties for competitive ‘home’ Second XI fixtures.

In Cricket Grounds of Northamptonshire local author, broadcaster and journalist Andrew Radd details the history, cricket and records of all the first-class and first XI grounds, in the process unearthing many new or unfamiliar facts about each of them.

This book and Cricket Grounds of Sussex complete our series on County Grounds, covering all 18 first-class counties in England and Wales.  Previous volumes are now available online.
